Hallucigenia

Inilah Bintang-Bintang Pemburu Muda Yang Melesat Bak Peluru

Sejumlah bintang-bintang di ruang angkasa, bergerak sangat cepat dari satu sudut langit ke sudut lainnya, melesat cepat bak peluru. Bahkan, beberapa di antaranya, terlihat seperti anak panah yang siap melesat ke sasarannya.


Teleskop Ruang Angkasa Hubble, berhasil merekam beberapa di antaranya. Ilmuwan Badan Antariksa AS (NASA), Raghvendra Sahai, dari Laboratorium Propulsi Jet di Pasadena, California, AS, menggambarkan betapa mengejutkan perilaku bintang-bintang yang tergolong muda ini.

"Saat saya melihatnya pertama kali, saya katakan "WoW", ini seperti peluru melesat di ruang antar bintang. Mata Hubble yang tajam, merekam struktur dan bentuk bow shock-nya," ujar Sahai yang sejauh ini telah menemukan 14 bintang seperti itu bersama timnya.

Saat menembus gas antar bintang, kanan kirinya membara, karena gesekan akibat tekanan tinggi. Efek bow shock ini membentuk struktur anak panah dan jejak gas membara di belakangnya seperti permukaan air yang pecah saat kepala melaju kencang di permukaan laut.

Dengan memperkirakan kecepatannya, umur bintang-bintang tersebut diperkirakan baru satu juta tahun. Ukurannya berapa kali lebih besar daripada Matahari. Kecepatan geraknya mencapai 180.000 kilometer perjam, atau lima kali lipat dibandingkan rata-rata pergerakan bintang. Artinya dengan asumsi tersebut, bintang-bintang aneh ini telah menjelajah ruang angkasa, sejauh 160 tahun cahaya.

Ada dua kemungkinan mengapa bintang-bintang tersebut melesat begitu cepat. Bisa jadi, bintang-bintang tersebut salah satu bintang dalam sistem bintang ganda yang meledak sebagai supernova, sehingga terpental jauh.

Kemungkinan lainnya, bintang tersebut merupakan hasil tabrakan dua bintang ganda yang menghasilkan objek baru yang terdepak keluar klusternya.

Video Game perang, seperti menembak, dapat melatih para pemainnya agar bisa membuat keputusan yang benar lebih cepat. Hal tersebut telah diuji oleh sebuah studi yang meneliti tentang pengaruh video game tersebut.

Para ilmuwan mengklaim, bahwa bermain video game action menghasilkan "sensitifitas tinggi" yang meningkatkan kemampuan, tidak hanya dalam video-game, namun juga kemampuan dalam kehidupan nyata, seperti : menyetir, navigasi, mengikuti teman dalam kerumunan, membaca tulisan yang kecil, seperti yang dikutip dari Press Association, Selasa (14/9/2010).


"Para pemain game action membuat keputusan benar lebih cepat. Apabila kamu adalah seorang dokter bedah atau sedang berada di medan pertempuran, hal tersebut bisa membuat perbedaan yang besar," ujar Daphne Baveller, orang yang menulis penelitian tersebut di jurnal Current Biology.

Sebuah kelompok yang terdiri dari gamer yang berumur 18 sampai 25 tahun dibagi dua oleh para ilmuwan dari University of Rochester, New York, dengan setengah bermain game Call Of Duty 2 selama 50 jam, dan setengahnya lagi bermain game The Sims 2 selama 50 jam. Masing-masing partisipan diberi beberapa tes. Hasilnya, grup pertama (yang memainkan game Call Of Duty 2) menjadi 25 persen lebih cepat dalam mengambil keputusan.

Otak mengakumulasi bagian kecil dari informasi audio dan visual, sampai menampung informasi yang cukup untuk membuat keputusan : "Apa yang harus dilakukan?"

Penelitian tersebut, nampaknya akan menyenangkan para gamer, yang sering dibilang bahwa bermain video-game adalah perbuatan yang buang-buang waktu saja.
